Nonprofit Partner Spotlight: The SAFE Alliance

The SAFE Alliance is a merger of Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace, both long-standing and respected human service agencies in Austin serving the survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence. The SAFE Alliance provides many different aspects of support for child or adult survivors of recent or past abuse or assault. Both children and adults receive access to free confidential counseling and therapeutic services. This can be arranged on an individual, group, or family basis and is provided in multiple languages, including Spanish and ASL. SAFE’s Eloise House provides free forensic sexual assault exams 24/7 and has a team of advocates that are available to provide emotional support and to talk through all the options available. The legal team of The SAFE Alliance may provide legal advice and direct legal representation in issues regarding family law, immigration law as it pertains to individuals or families that have experienced abuse or assault, certain areas of criminal law and civil law.

Temporary and permanent housing is available through The SAFE Alliance for children and families that have experienced abuse and need continuing support. They facilitate many education programs including life skills for survivors, parenting resources for all genders, community outreach, disability services, and a charter school for grades K-12. For adults that are considering adopting or fostering a child, SAFE provides support services to assist foster or adoptive families through the adoption/fostering process and to prepare parents to create healthy and nurturing home environments for the children.

There are many volunteer opportunities, both traditional in-person ways and COVID-safe ways to help during the pandemic. To learn more about The SAFE Alliance, the services they provide, and volunteer and donation opportunities, please visit their website at
