Shocking Questions with BLiPSWiTCH

BLiPSWiTCH is many things, but they are first and foremost a collaborative movement. With the upcoming ninth installment of their Offbeat series, BLiPSWiTCH has teamed up with Shock the Vote ATX to create exciting virtual videos that use their unique dance stylings to spotlight seven local Austin businesses. Known for their creative use of space, BLiPSWiTCH will surely give you a new perspective of these Austin shops, restaurants, and breweries that many of you know and love! We chatted with Taryn Lavery and Alex Miller, co-directors and co-founders of BLiPSWiTCH, and asked them some Shocking Questions to discover more about the company, what they love about Austin, and why they vote. Learn how you may join the BLiPSWiTCH movement here.

What does your organization do?

BLiPSWiTCH is a project-based dance company in Austin focused on collaboration and site-specific works as an avenue to community expansion. We work to push the boundaries of movement, dance and art to facilitate an environment of innovation, enrichment and outreach, including regular classes for local movers and working dance artists.

Why do you love Austin?

Even as Austin has grown, there is still a strong sense of community and engagement. People are willing to experience things outside of their comfort zone, which makes it possible to experiment and push artistic boundaries. We also love going to shows, galleries, festivals, etc, and the opportunities to support other people's work!

Why do you vote?

We vote for all of the people that have been kept out of the process, throughout history and continuing into the present day. We vote because it is a privilege, we believe that silence equals complicity and because it is a small personal way that we can make a larger impact.

Who is one of your favorite Austin entertainment groups?

We love the Ephraim Owens Experience at the Continental Gallery on Tuesday nights at 10:30PM. Do yourself the favor of this intimate jazz experience at an iconic Austin spot.

Who's your favorite Austin business or restaurant?

Food: Bufalina, Polvos, Patrizi's, Salty Sow Happy Hour

Who's your favorite non-profit organization in Austin, aside from the one you represent?

What's your favorite Halloween treat?
